Integrated cow rearing & biogas plant

The Integrated Cow Rearing & Biogas Plant Program of ARS-Bangladesh promotes sustainable livelihoods, renewable energy, and environmentally friendly agricultural practices by combining livestock farming with biogas technology. Implemented from 2014 to 2025 in Jashore, Jhenaidah, and Chuadanga districts with support from the World Bank, Ministry of Finance, and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), the program aimed to reduce dependence on traditional fuels while improving household income and agricultural productivity.

Key Achievements:

  • Supported 137 beneficiary households through integrated biogas and livestock initiatives.
  • Facilitated grants totaling BDT 2.83 million for biogas plant installation and promotion.
  • Installed biogas plants in rural households to provide clean and sustainable energy for cooking and household use.
  • Trained farmers on the use of biogas slurry as an organic fertilizer to enhance agricultural productivity.
  • Created local employment opportunities through biogas plant construction, operation, and maintenance.
  • Raised awareness on renewable energy, fuel conservation, and greenhouse gas emission reduction.

Through this initiative, ARS-Bangladesh contributed to improved household energy access, increased income from livestock rearing, enhanced agricultural production, better sanitation, and strengthened climate resilience among rural communities.
