Solar Irrigation Pump Installation

The Solar Irrigation Pump Installation Project was implemented from 2013 to 2024 with support from the World Bank Group and the Ministry of Finance in partnership with Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL). With a total investment of BDT 8.9 million, the project promoted renewable energy-based irrigation systems in Chowgacha Upazila of Jashore District, reducing farmers’ dependence on diesel and grid electricity. The project directly benefited 213 households and supported sustainable agricultural production through the use of clean solar energy.

Key Achievements:

  • 50 acres of agricultural land brought under solar-powered irrigation.
  • 213 beneficiaries gained access to reliable and environmentally friendly irrigation services.
  • Approximately 250 farmers trained on solar irrigation system operation, maintenance, and efficient water management.
  • Reduced irrigation costs by replacing diesel-based pumping systems with solar energy.
  • Contributed to lower greenhouse gas emissions and promoted climate-smart agriculture.
  • Enhanced agricultural productivity through uninterrupted and sustainable irrigation services.

The project demonstrated the potential of solar energy as a cost-effective and sustainable solution for agricultural irrigation, contributing to improved livelihoods, increased farm resilience, and environmentally responsible agricultural development.
